The IHSA Board of Directors met virtually for a special board meeting Friday, Feb. 19 and delivered some great news for a pair of sports.

The board approved a recommendation to hold a sectional round in the state series for badminton. The sectionals are scheduled for March 25, March 26 or March 27. Whether the state series will conclude with sectionals or advance to a state final round will be reviewed at the March board of directors meeting.

The IHSA board also approved a recommendation to hold a sectional round of playoffs in bass fishing. The sectionals are scheduled to take place May 6 with a rain date of May 10. Like badminton, whether the state series will conclude with sectionals or advance to a state final round will be reviewed at the March board of directors meeting.

The IHSA also responded to appeals and hearings and one had ties to the Journal-area. The board modified the ruling on a student from Loyola Academy, who appealed an ineligibility ruling in October. Based on new information provided since that initial appeal hearing, the board ruled the student eligible immediately.
